Greylock Glen Update:

September 2000

In March, Secretary Durand of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs approved the final Environmental Impact Report for the Greylock Center development in Adams, MA. The proposal includes a five building environmental education center, an 18-hole golf course, a 200-room resort hotel and conference center and 300 vacation houses all to be built on state-owned land bordering the Mount Greylock State Reservation. Since then, the Department of Environmental Management and the developer (Greylock Management Associates) have been negotiating the Master Lease and the Land Disposition Agreement, which will determine which aspects of the project will be paid for by taxpayers and which by private investors.

What you can do: Write to Governor A. Paul Cellucci, The State House, Room 360, Boston, MA 02133 and tell him that this economic development project is inappropriately contributing to sprawl and should not be supported by taxpayer dollars. For more information, visit www.savetheglen.tripod.com.
